Mississauga Festival Youth Choir is looking for young enthusiastic singers!
Under the leadership of Artistic Director Ana Alvarez, members will be introduced to music from around the world and learn a variety of things which are important to their developing musicianship.
MFYC offers an inclusive environment, instruction in good vocal technique and musical literacy, opportunities for boys with changed or changing voices, and involvement in the community and touring experiences .
Benefits of Singing
Singing in a choir provides opportunity to make new friends and share a love of music with others.
Choral singing teaches young people how to work cooperatively, while building self-confidence and a sense of independence.
Singing improves cardio-vascular function and can lead to increased lung capacity.
Recent studies link music learning with improved mathematical understanding and spiritual and emotional well-being.
Our Program
Music of other cultures in their original languages will be a part of the total choral experience. Good vocal techniques, familiarity with music notation, rehearsal and performance behaviour, and other aspects of choral singing and choir citizenship will be highlighted at first.
As the season progresses, continued emphasis is on developing musicianship, including harmony, theory, and sight singing. Mississauga Festival Youth Choir offers all this music education in an atmosphere that is welcoming to any child who loves to sing.
What does it take to join MFYC?
A Love of Singing!
At MFYC we believe everyone can learn to sing. All it takes is enthusiasm and love of singing!
If you are between the ages of 7 and 19, have a passion for singing, are eager to learn more about music, enjoy performing and are looking for an opportunity to broaden your musical horizons – we would love to hear from you.
Vocal Assessment (like audition, but not as stressful!)
Vocal assessments take place in a safe and comfortable environment. Their purpose is to find out more about young singers’ musical experience and potential. We operate on the belief that all children have a right to a music education, and that all children can learn to sing.
Please come prepared to sing “O, Canada” without accompaniment.
A few simple exercises will help us determine the range of your voice and level of experience.
It is NOT necessary to read music – MFYC will teach you how!
To book your vocal asessment appointment, please contact Artistic Director, Ana Alvarez at 905-267-1101.
